FAQs

Does my SPX3000 pressure washer have a downstream or upstream detergent injector?

Your Sun Joe Pressure Joe SPX3000 has a downstream chemical injector, installed on the outlet (discharge) side of the pump, that applies detergent with the dedicated soap nozzle. The advantage of the downstream injector is that the chemicals cannot cause damage to the pump system. In upstream injectors, the chemicals run through the pump, causing the pump seals to wear out.

Why isn't my unit reaching high pressure?

Cause Solution
Diameter of garden hose is too small. Replace with a 1" (25 mm) or 5/8" (16 mm) garden hose.
Water supply is restricted. Check garden hose for kinks, leaks, and blockage.
Not enough inlet water supply. Open water source fully.
Spray nozzle is not powerful enough. Select a higher pressure nozzle.
Pump is sucking air. Check that hoses and fittings are airtight. Turn "OFF" machine, and purge pump by squeezing trigger gun until a steady flow of water emerges through the nozzle.

My pressure washer is leaking from where the garden hose goes into the pressure washer.

The original adapter can wear over time, and this causes leakage. Also, the end of the garden hose may become imperfect and this will compromise the seal. The best solution would be to upgrade to a heavy-duty brass adapter, available on our website here.

Why does the motor buzz and fail to run?

Cause Solution
Supply voltage below minimum. Allow only the pressure washer to run on this circuit.
System has residual pressure. Turn unit "OFF", squeeze trigger on spray wand to release pressure, then turn unit "ON".
Voltage loss due to extension cord. Unplug any extension cords attached and plug the unit directly into the outlet.

How do I assemble my SPX3000 Pressure Washer?

Assembling your SPX3000 is simple!

How do I winterize my pressure washer?

You can protect your Sun Joe Pressure Joe SPX3000 from winter damage by following these steps:

  1. Disconnect all water connections.
  2. Turn on the machine for a few seconds, until any remaining water exits the pump. Turn off immediately.
  3. Store the machine and accessories in a room that does not reach freezing temperatures. Do not store near a furnace or other sources of intense heat as it may dry out the pump seals.

Do you make a brass connector for my pressure washer?

Yes, we offer a heavy duty dual swivel 3/4-inch by 3/4-inch double female brass connector upgrade (model SPX-BSC), available on our website here.

Why does the motor not start?

Cause Solution
On/Off switch is in the "OFF" position. Turn switch to the "ON" position.
Power cord is not plugged in. Plug in power cord.
Extension cord is too long. Extension cord is not proper gauge. Extension cord is damaged.

Use unit without an extension cord, or replace extension cord with a 25' (7.6 m) or shorter, 14/3 gauge or thicker, outdoor-rated extension cord.

Electrical outlet does not supply adequate power. Try a different outlet.
Tripped pressure washer GFCI circuit breaker. Reset the GFCI and retry the unit.

Why does the pressure vary from high to low?

Cause Solution
Not enough inlet water supply. Turn water on fully. Check garden hose for kinks, leaks or blockage.
Pump is sucking air. Check that hoses and fittings are airtight. Turn "OFF" machine, and purge pump by squeezing trigger gun until a steady flow of water emerges through the nozzle.
Water inlet filter is clogged. Remove filter and rinse in warm water.
Discharge nozzle is obstructed. Blow out or remove debris with the needle clean out tool.
Calcified gun, hose or power nozzle. Run distilled white vinegar through the detergent tank, or soak the calcified part with the vinegar.

Why does the garden hose connection adapter leak?

Cause Solution
Loose fittings. Tighten fittings (excessive over-tightening may damage the adapter).
Missing/worn rubber washer(s) inside the adapter. Insert new washer(s).

Can I use an aftermarket spray nozzle with the quick connect wand?

Your Pressure Joe SPX3000 uses a universal 1/4" (F) Quick Connect spray wand that is compatible with most 1/4" (M) Quick Connect spray nozzles.

What kind of pump and motor does my unit have?

Your Sun Joe Pressure Joe SPX3000 uses a universal motor with a wobble-plate piston pump.

What size thread/length is the pressure hose?

Your Sun Joe Pressure Joe SPX3000 is equipped with a 1/4-Inch x 20-Foot high pressure hose with M22 female quick-screw fittings on both sides.

Why is there no detergent coming out?

Cause Solution
Detergent container is empty. Add more detergent.
Detergent bottle or suction tube not properly connected. Check connections.
Detergent is too thick. Dilute detergent.
Clogged detergent tube. Remove obstruction or run distilled white vinegar through detergent tank.
Discharge nozzle is obstructed. Blow out or remove debris with the needle clean out tool.
Using a 3rd-party nozzle. Use black soap nozzle found in our Sun Joe Electric Pressure Washer Quick-Connect Spray Tip Set (SPX3000-TPS).

Can my unit be connected to a portable water supply?

Your Sun Joe Pressure Washer must be connected to a mains water supply with a mains pressure system providing a constant inlet pressure up to but not exceeding 0.7MPa (7 bars, also equal to 100 psi). Portable water supplies, tanks, and pumps use regulators that cannot provide a constant pressure to your unit, and this will cause the motor to wear prematurely, or even break entirely.

What is the life expectancy of the pump found in my unit?

Your SPX unit uses a wobble-plate piston pump with an average life expectancy of 300 to 500 hours of usage.
